Disassemble
If you have bed frames, tables, wardrobes or any other type of furniture that can be disassembled, do it. Take them apart, clean them with soap and water and rub on a thin coat of wax. This will protect them from excessive humidity. Also put all the bolts, screws and nuts in a plastic bag and tape them to the furniture they belong to. This way you won’t have problems putting them back together!
Also cover all the table tops and headboards with a quilt or another big piece of fabric. They will prevent scratching and denting.
Plastic Sheets
Purchase plastic sheets, if possible the ones used in construction buildings, and before you start offloading your possessions, place them on the ground. By doing this you will prevent the moisture and humidity from the floor affect your belongings. They will be able to breathe more easily.
Clean before packing
If you have furniture with fabric on it, such as sofas, chairs or mattresses, make sure you clean them before storing them. If you do this you will prevent mould and mildew growth.
Once you have everything clean, apply an antibacterial cleanser mixed with warm water and give them one more final wipe. Wait for them to dry, and then store them. Simple!
