Some things were never meant to be put in storage units. It might seem strange to suggest that there are things that you prohibited from storing in your storage unit, since you are renting the space and you should be able to use it how you see fit right? Well not quite. Nearly anything can be stored in a storage unit, however there are a few exceptions and these exist for the safety and security of everyone using the facility. At All Size Sheds we set the record straight about what things are allowed and not allowed to keep in your storage unit in our list below.
1. Animal or plant products
Alive or dead, animal or plant products can decompose in the environment of a storage unit and can spread disease not to mention attracting pest infestations including rodent and cockroaches. Anything that is considered living should NEVER be stored in a storage unit. And this includes people trying to camp in their unit – believe it or not, it does happen.
2. Perishable Foods
Most food does not store well in a storage unit but in particular anything that is perishable. Canned and packet food can be stored but for most people it’s common sense not to store anything perishable in your unit.
3. Illegal Items
Whether it’s guns, weapons, drugs, cash or other illegal items, we don’t want to be part of your criminal activities or have others exposed to risk. A storage unit is not the place to smuggle illegal items and there could be severe consequences if found doing so. Please keep it legal.
4. Explosive or Volatile Items
This includes anything which is flammable, toxic or could become volatile being in the closed environment of a storage unit. More commonly used items like Kerosene, petrol, fireworks or fertiliser should not be stored.
5. Toxic Items
Medical waste, asbestos materials, radioactive materials should NEVER be stored – it begs belief why people would have these items on hand anyway, but for the sake of putting it out there, don’t put these items here.
